The State of the Not-for-Profit Industry (SONI) Survey has been conducted annually since 2004 to help not-for-profits benchmark their own forecasts, gauge the levels of sector optimism and report on some of the key management strategies not-for-profit leaders are using.

Some of the key findings can be found below:

  • The use of peer-to-peer fundraising, where supporters raise funds on behalf of their chosen not-for-profit continues to rise with 69% of respondents saying they had received donations from peer-to-peer fundraising. An increase from 60% in 2013 and 38% in 2012.
  • 96% of organisations now use some form of social media to communicate with their supporters, an increase from 80% in 2013.
  • There is an increase in not-for-profits who are reporting no income from Gift Aid, in 2014 it was at 42% and is now up to 50%.
