Q: What are the benefits of moving to the public cloud?
A: Blackbaud partners with industry-leading Cloud Service Providers(CSPs), such as Microsoft Azure®, to ensure your solutions benefit from modern infrastructure now and in the future. The public cloud leverages state-of-the-art enhanced security, reliability, stability, and performance. Benefits of Blackbaud Cloud Operations include:
- Innovative, modern cloud infrastructure.
- Adherence to the highest-level compliance certifications and laws, including PCI-DSS, PCI PA-DSS, SSAE 18 (SOC1, SOC2), GDPR, and alignment to best practices according to the Cloud Security Alliance and others.
Q: Does my organization have to move to Blackbaud Cloud Operations?
A: Yes, being in the cloud provides the enhanced security, reliability, and performance that the social good community needs – all within a modern architecture that drives impact and outcomes for your organization. All Blackbaud hosted Raiser’s Edge NXT and Financial Edge NXT customer environments will be in Blackbaud Azure environments by July 2026.
Q: How does Blackbaud ensure the relocation process is secure, given the confidentiality/sensitivity of the information that is being transferred?
A: Customer data is fully encrypted, transferred, and stored in data encrypted storage containers during the timeframe of the customer relocation. Once the customer’s solution is moved into the public cloud environment successfully, all the encrypted stored data used to enable the relocation is deleted from the storage container.
Q: How long will it take For Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT and Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT?
A: The length of time it takes to fully validate (meaning all data is available and synced in the new environment) varies based on each customer’s unique configurations.
- Most relocations take between 2-6 hours for files to be moved and data fully updated in the new environment. Most customers will be completely relocated during your overnight-maintenance window/stated timeframe.
- Some customers with large databases may take more than 6 hours to fully sync and all data to be restored in your Azure environment. You will be notified via email if your data needs more time to sync. Learn more in this Knowledgebase article.
Q: Is there any cost associated with relocating to the public cloud?
A: While there are no costs for your solution to be moved into an Azure environment, some customers, based on your Raiser’s Edge NXT and Financial Edge NXT configurations, may need to upgrade plugins and SQL versions. Costs associated with any upgrades required for Azure environments will be the customer's responsibility.
Q: Will my plugins work in a Blackbaud Azure environment?
A: Most plug-ins should work in the public cloud.
- Some partners have transitioned to connect through SKY API, as opposed to a plug-in, refer to What Applications are available for Blackbaud SKY Solutions.
- You will need to work directly with your plug-in provider for any actions you need to take. For example, some like Omatic have instructions on actions needed once you are in Azure.
- Costs associated with any plug-in upgrades required for Azure environments will be the customer's responsibility.
- After April 30, 2026, Blackbaud will only support PaperSave v7 and higher.
Q: Will my nightly backups continue once I am relocated?
A: Yes, if you are currently getting a nightly backup, that will continue in the public cloud. Customers hosted in the public cloud will be provisioned using SQL 2019. If you regularly request backups or use database backup files for testing purposes in a local environment you may need to upgrade your environment for SQL 2019 compatibility.
Q: Can we relocate and preserve existing files to be sure all expectations are met?
A: Your existing files will be preserved by Blackbaud in the private cloud environment for 30 days after the relocation.
Q: How do I log into my database after it's been relocated to the public cloud?

Q: How do I change the regional settings for database view when hosted in the public cloud?
A: If you find that your Raisers Edge database view is showing the wrong currency or date format, you may have to adjust your regional settings. The following knowledgebase article will walk you through these steps: https://kb.blackbaud.com/knowledgebase/Article/110140.
Q: Will my database have TDE (Transparent Data Encryption) once we are in Azure?
A: Yes. Blackbaud is actively enabling TDE for all Raiser’s Edge NXT and Financial Edge NXT customers in all public cloud environments including production and non-production without any customer effort or impact to normal customer operations. TDE is an industry standard best practice methodology that provides customers with the added security of full database encryption for all fields, including free-text note fields. TDE enablement does not require any action for customers to benefit from this additional layer of security.
